In this issue - Australian Country issue 20.6 2017
For this issue of Australian Country, we’ve found an amazing array of people and places to hopefully engage, intrigue and entertain. We start with two very different, but very appropriate outback businesses. Julie Brown started Coola Cozzies, a sun-safe swimwear range, partly as a response to the drought in central-western Queensland and also as a very practical solution to the problem of finding swimwear that appeals to adults of all ages and sizes. On the other side of the country in WA’s Pilbara region Kara Lauder developed her Kader Boot Co because she wanted western boots with an Aussie accent in colours and styles that reflected the landscape. We’ve been to South Australia too, to catch up with Mark and Wendy Day at their beautiful home and garden on the Fleurieu Peninsula and to Queensland’s Granite Belt where Fay Helwig has developed a spectacular field of Flanders poppies as her personal tribute to Remembrance Day. In northern NSW we visited former architect turned voice-over artist Sharon Fraser, who has transformed her Bangalow home with her signature minimalist style, while closer to Sydney we met up with Claire and Stephen Ayling, who have transformed a historic Goulburn hotel into a grand home with apartment accommodation. A bit further off the beaten track we braved a very brisk morning on Bruny Island to harvest some of this country’s best oysters with Get Shucked’s Suzanne Macefield and farmer Dave Rozer our travel feature focuses on the Carnarvon Highway, from Moree in north-western NSW to Rolleston in central Queensland. The festive season is just around the corner, and our Christmas Gift Guide will provide inspiration for all
