Homespun continues to evolve with our readers, and I am elated to be on this journey together with you as we grow our offering both on paper and online.
The world is seeing a resurgence of “Nanna crafts” as more people discover the benefits hand-crafting have on our minds and souls. There’s a global rise in community craft events, which give us a reason to put down our screens — or watch together, as we discover in our article on Craft Cinema Night!
In response, we’re not only continuing to bring you projects to engage your hands and mind, but also community events, ideas, and dates and events where you can connect with people and places. We also encourage you to find us @homespunmagazine on Instagram, where we share projects and events as they happen.
For this edition, we were inspired by our feature artists, Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson, and how they defined the “Australian” aesthetic. We asked each of our designers to create a piece about “place”. We talk to Annabel Wrigley about how her Aussie heritage informs her vibrant designs, while Janelle Skene offers a similarly joyful quilted pillowcase created in the home she describes as her “sanctuary”.
We have a beautiful textured throw by Swedish designer Anette Eriksson, a sweet cross-stitch piece inspired by River Red Gums by Joanna Kabanoff, and a beautiful “Home” embroidery for your own special place by Joanne Bacolas and Starra Tunbridge. Designers Nina Sincich and Juanita Sinclair celebrate the joys of crafting and playing at home with a children’s play mat and a handy couch caddy, respectively, while Anne Lambert reflects on travel memories with her pattern for a Quilted Cooler Bag. Finally, we have a fun, retro quilted children’s jacket from Bettsy Kingston as an on-trend scrap buster to keep your hands busy and your stash low.

Enjoy!
